Germaine de Randamie is no longer just a world-class striker as “Iron Lady” submitted veteran contender Julianna Pena via third-round guillotine choke last night (Sat., Oct. 3, 2020) at UFC Fight Island 4 live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside Flash Forum on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi.
After a back-and-forth two rounds that featured moments for both ladies it was Pena who was able to push the action along the cage and control the fight in the third. De Randamie had to dig deep and somehow locked up a tight guillotine choke while defending. She dropped to the canvas, tightened the squeeze, and didn’t let go until Pena went to sleep.

With this performance, de Randamie gets back in the win column after getting outclassed by UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes last December. It was the first defeat for GDR since losing to Nunes in their first meeting back in 2013. By adding another level to her game like the above submission de Randamie can start putting a case together for a trilogy with “Lioness.”
