Andy Ruiz Jr. (33-1, 22 KO) shocked the boxing world last night (Sat. June 1, 2019) live on DAZN from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City, when he upset WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (22-1, 21 KO) via seventh-round TKO (highlights shown above courtesy of DAZN).

Joshua, who is widely regarded as one of the top three best heavyweights in the world today, came into the title fight as a -2500 betting favorite, making this victory for Ruiz Jr. a throwback to Buster Douglas’ knockout of Mike Tyson nearly 30 years ago.

Ruiz Jr. didn’t cruise to this victory, though, as the gutsy challenger stomached a massive knockdown in the third round from a powerful left hook of Joshua. Ruiz got back to his feet and ended up shocking the boxing universe and knocking down the champion twice in the same frame (highlights shown below courtesy of DAZN).

All the back and forth didn’t stop Ruiz Jr. from digging deep into the tank and throwing heat at Joshua in the seventh round. Ruiz scored a fast knockdown during a dangerous exchange in the opening minutes. Another knockdown came moments later during a flurry in the center of the ring. Joshua ended up on a knee, barely got back up, and then stumbled to the corner. The champ looked spent and wasn’t completely engaging with the referee so the fight was subsequently waved off.

What a stunner.
