Few fighters made quite as much impact with their debut as Irish-born competitor Conor McGregor did when he first appeared in the UFC. Now the featherweight star on the rise has his second bout secured for the Octagon.
McGregor will square off with England’s own Andy Ogle as part of the UFC on Fox Sports 1 1 show in Boston on August 17.
UFC officials announced the bout in a press release emailed to Bleacher Report on Friday with verbal agreements in place from both fighters.
McGregor came to the UFC with quite a bit of hype behind him after competing in both the lightweight and featherweight divisions in promotions like Cage Warriors.
The Irish fighter finally made his UFC debut back in April as part of the UFC on Fuel card in Sweden and it didn’t take long for McGregor to let his impact be felt.
McGregor dispatched former Ultimate Fighter competitor Marcus Brimage with powerful strikes in the first round to get his first UFC win, while also banking a Knockout of the Night bonus along the way.
McGregor‘s reception was widely felt around his home country of Ireland and it didn’t take UFC President Dana White long to decide on placing the young featherweight on the upcoming Boston card for the debut of the UFC on Fox Sports 1.
Boston is a diverse town, but according to The Washington Post, 20.4 percent of its population claims at least a partial Irish heritage. Therefore, it makes perfect sense for McGregor to appear on the upcoming card.
Hoping to derail the McGregor hype train will be Ultimate Fighter: Live veteran Andy Ogle, who will look to pick up his second victory in a row when he fights at UFC on Fox Sports 1 1.
After the reality show, Ogle lost in his UFC debut in a closely contested and controversial bout with Akira Corassani, but bounced back in impressive fashion by defeating former WEC title contender Josh Grispi in February.
Now the young Englishman will face one of the top UFC prospects in McGregor, with hopes of stealing some of his momentum by beating him in the Octagon.
