A bout between UFC lightweights Jacob ‘Christmas’ Volkmann (14-2) and undefeated Paul ‘Sassangle’ Sass (12-0) has been confirmed for the upcoming UFC 146 event this May.

Fighters Only Magazine confirmed the bout on Tuesday.

UFC 146 is expected to take place on May 26, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite both fighters records, with the event being a pay-per-view fans will likely see this matchup take place on the preliminary card on television.

Volkmann has quietly strung together five straight victories since dropping to lightweight in the UFC, winning all by unanimous or split decision. Despite the wins, he’s been criticized for not finishing opponents which is likely the main reason why all of his bouts have been delegated to the preliminary section of event cards. Volkmann was last in action in December, earning a unanimous decision over Efrain Escudero at UFC 141. The other four wins have come against Danny Castillo, Antonio McKee, Paul Kelly and Ronys Torres.

Sass is undefeated in his young career, winning both of his Octagon appearances. The British fighter had been scheduled to meet Evan Dunham last month at the UFC on FOX 2 event, but was forced out due to injury. Sass saw his last action in the Octagon in October where he used a heel hook submission to tap out Michael Johnson at the UFC on Versus 6 show. ‘Sassangle’ debuted one year before using a triangle choke to submit opponent Mark Holst at UFC 120.
