The UFC’s welterweight division is looking for its next best contender, and Jake Ellenberger (26-5) just might be that guy to challenge reigning UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

“Styles make fights, and really, I never go into each fight with fear and work my strategy and know what I’m going to do,” Ellenberger told TATAME TV at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “GSP is fantastic. He’s one of the best fighters in the world. I’m working my way up one fight at a time, and hopefully I get to fight GSP.”

Ellenberger’s most recent victory came against former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields, who he knocked out in 53 seconds. In Shields’ fight before that, he went the full 25-minute distance with St-Pierre.

“I definitely believe I can beat GSP,” Ellenberger continued. “I think I can beat anybody in my weight class in the world.”

Of Ellenberger’s 26 wins, 17 have come by knockout. He is on a five-fight win streak with wins over Shields, Sean Pierson, John Howard, Mike Pyle and Carlos Eduardo Rocha.
