James Toney

According to Yahoo Sports’s Dan Wetzel, former boxing champion James Toney is expected to make between $750,000 and $1 million for his efforts tonight at UFC 118 when he takes on UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture. Wow. That’s crazy money for a man who’s never fought MMA before, but boxers do command huge money for their pay per view fights in their own sports. Here’s the blurb:

The UFC, led by former boxer-turned-promoter Dana White, has flourished. “MMA is the king of the [expletive] right now,” Toney said, which is another reason he’s here. He’ll make an estimated $750,000 to $1 million Saturday. In boxing, “I can’t get no fights.”

Seems like he’s getting way more than many, many established UFC fighters. What are your thoughts? Is it fair?
