UFC bantamweight Jessica Eye took the first step toward restoring her damaged reputation by passing a test for recreational drugs following her UFC 170 loss to Alexis Davis.
Nevada Athletic Commission chairman Francisco Aguilar revealed the news to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani earlier on Friday.
Eye was tested for performance-enhancing drugs in addition to the test for recreational drugs. The PED test results are not yet available.
Eye lost a split decision to Alexis Davis on the UFC 170 preliminary card.
Aguilar also said champion Ronda Rousey and Sara McMann passed their tests and that the rest of the fighters on the UFC 170 card were tested as well. But as with Eye, those results are not yet available.
Eye found herself in hot water when she tested positive for cannabinoids following her UFC 166 win over Sarah Kaufman, then proceeded to lie to fans and media about the cause of the test failure. She told Helwani on The MMA Hour that she found out about the test failure when everybody else did, when in fact she was informed of the situation on November 26.
Eye also wrote a letter to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, in which she alluded to her father smoking pot being the cause of her failure.
The TDLR fined Eye $1,875 and gave her a probated suspension. Before she was allowed to fight in Nevada, she was required to take a pre-fight drug test, which she passed. She was then tested after the fight and has at least passed the test for recreational drugs.
