A knee injury has reportedly sidelined former UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch (23-4-1) and has forced him to withdraw from his upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 4 bout with Aaron Simpson.

News of the Fitch’s withdrawal comes via the Wrestling Observer on Saturday and provided no details on the severity of the injury.

No official word has been issued by the UFC at this time but Simpson is expected to stay on the card to face a new opponent.

UFC on FUEL TV 4 (aka UFC on FUEL TV: Munoz vs. Weidman) is expected to take place on July 11, 2012 at HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

Fitch suffered a 12-second knockout in his last outing, losing to rising star Johny Hendricks last December at UFC 141. The defeat ended a six-fight undefeated streak for Fitch who had not suffered a loss since his defeat at the hands of UFC welterweight Georges St-Pierre back in August 2008 at UFC 87.

Simpson will be making his welterweight debut at the FUEL TV event, suffered a loss in his last fight, dropping a close split decision to Ronny Markes in a middleweight fight last February at the UFC on FUEL TV 1 event. Ehe defeat ended a three fight win streak for ‘A-Train.’
