Betting odds are already out and they have current UFC light heavyweight champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (19-4) as the underdog going into his UFC 128 title fight with Jon “Bones” Jones (12-1).
Odds makers have put Jones at -180 while Rua is +150.
Joey Oddessa (@MMAOdds) provided the update on the betting odds for the two fighters.
Jones earned the title shot Saturday night after he dispatched Ryan Bader in the second round of their UFC 126 bout with a guillotine choke. Jones teammate Rashad Evans was to get the next title shot with Rua but a freak accident while training has sidelined him with a knee injury that will keep him out for months.
Oddessa noted that heavy betting has already begun on the fight.
“The initial support all came in on Jon Jones, driving the number from -150 to -155 to -175 early,. Then the Rua money came in. This was in the first 15 minutes it was put on the board. (It’s) all big-limit action on both sides, and now the bout is sitting at Jones -160. Jones’ dominant win over a great wrestler and fighter in Ryan Bader has the whole planet buzzing about the potential of the young fighter, and they are going to the windows with it.”
