Jorge Masvidal moves up to welterweight, meets Cezar Ferreira at TUF 21 Finale

Jorge Masvidal has a new bout scheduled.

Following a controversial split decision loss to Al Iaquinta, Masvidal will move up to the welterweight division and meet Cezar Ferreira, who drops from 185 for the first time, at the TUF 21 Finale event in Florida on July 12.

Ferreira announced the bout following a report by Brazilian journalist Ricardo Carlini.

Masvidal (28-9) returns to the welterweight division for the first time since a decision loss to Paul Daley in 2010. Masvidal went 8-3 as a lightweight in the UFC and Strikeforce, most recently defeating Pat Healy, Daron Cruickshank and James Krause in the UFC.

“Mutante” (8-4), winner of the first season of TUF: Brazil, cuts down to 170 pounds after a 4-2 run as a middleweight in the UFC. The Blackzilians fighter holds UFC wins over Sergio Moraes, Thiago Santos, Daniel Sarafian and Andrew Craig.

Speaking to MMAFighting.com in March, Ferreira explained his decision to cut weight.

“I believe I will have advantage because of my reach and height,” Ferreira said. “I cut weight pretty easily. While other middleweights are eating salad on fight week, I’m eating potatoes and pasta. It was a wise decision to move to 170.”

TUF 21 Finale will take place in a yet-to-be-announced venue in Miami, Fla., and features Ben Henderson vs. Michael Johnson in the main event. The two other bouts already confirmed are Josh Samman vs. Caio Magalhaes and Michelle Waterson vs. Angela Magana.
