With the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion merging with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, WEC featherweight champ José Aldo (18-1) was awarded his UFC belt on Saturday prior to UFC 123 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
UFC president Dana White presented the new belt to Aldo at the ceremony.
Aldo will defend his new UFC gold on New Year’s day against Josh Grispi in the co-main event of the UFC 125: Resolution show in Las Vegas.
