Nick Diaz announced his retirement from mixed martial arts back on February 4, 2012. Few though, took the declaration seriously, chalking it up as yet another rash, heat-of-the-moment exclamation.
As the conclusion of 2012 draws nearer and nearer, speculation of Diaz‘s return to the UFC continues to build, with viable opponents even being sized up for a potential comeback match.
One of those potential opponents, Josh Koscheck, who has himself been on the shelf since May, 2012, has stated his willingness to be Diaz‘s return opponent.
Taking to his Twitter account, Koscheck issued the following announcement:
Cesar is calling 4 me the fight Diaz in Feb. Super Bowl weekend! What you guy think? I am DOWN! Don’t be scared Homie! #559 lol
That’s not just a challenge accepted.
That’s a challenge accepted with a side of ribbing.
And coming from Koscheck, labeling it good-natured might be a tad presumptuous.
It’s also unlikely that Diaz, renowned for his extreme volatility, would be quick to give Koscheck the benefit of the doubt on those “Don’t be scared Homie!” and “#559 lol” shots.
But possible insults and potentially hurt feelings aside, the fight stands as a reasonable addition to the UFC’s annual Super Bowl weekend fight card, which remains rather bare to this point.
And something is telling me that if Koscheck and Diaz are given a few months to jaw at each other, they just might be able to hype the affair reasonably well.
So what do you say?
Is a Diaz-Koscheck clash something you want to digest as a Super Bowl appetizer?
