Saturday night also saw the Polish promotion Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki hold it’s latest event at Tower Hall in Warsaw, Poland. The KSW XV: Revenge event featured a catchweight bout between Mamed Khalidov and former UFC fighter James Irvin, as well as a LHW title bout between champ Jan Blachowicz vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, and a bout for the vacant KSW lightweight title between Finalnd’s Niko Puhakka vs. Maciej Gorski.
Khalidov would take exactly 33 seconds to submit Irvin in the opening round of the main event, earning only the third victory for a Polish based fighter on the card out of nine bouts during the whole night.
“I’m very happy to represent Poland. We are fighters. If I have prepared for months for a fight, then I have to take it, even if my opponent came in overweight.”
Sokoudjou would use devastating leg kicks to chop down Blachowicz over two rounds to earn the KSW LHW title. The former champ chose to stand and exchange kicks with “The African Assassin” and paid for it by seeing his nine fight win streak end.
“I know I didn’t have the power to beat him. He showed me a weakness and I took advantage of it.”
Finnish fighter Puhakka would walk away with the KSW lightweight title after choking out his Polish opponent, Górski, in the second round with an arm-triangle choke at 3:20.
