Mac DanzigA torn muscle has forced Mac Danzig (20-8-1) out of his upcoming lightweight bout with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (14-3, 1NC) for next months UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin event.

MMAWeekly.com reported the news on Tuesday evening, after learning of the injury from sources close to the bout. No news on a new opponent was made, but with a bloated lightweight division there is bound to be someone who is willing to step up on less than a months notice.

Both men were scheduled to meet on June 11 at the UFC 131: Dos Santos vs. Carwin event which is scheduled to take place at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

Danzig is 2-4 in his last six bouts, earning a spectacular knockout win over Joe Stevenson last December at UFC 124. For that, he earned his first “Knockout of the Night” bonus. Previous to that win, Danzig was choked out by Matt Wiman at UFC 115, losing in the first round by technical submission. UFC 131 would have represented Danzig’s third straight appearance at a Canadian event.

Cerrone debuted with the UFC with a victory, as well as a “Fight of the Night” bonus, after submitting Paul Kelly at UFC 126 last February. The win was the “Cowboy’s” third straight and fourth in five bouts. The former WEC lightweight contender appeared at the very last WEC event in December, stopping Canadian Chris Horodecki by submission at the WEC 53 event.
