“The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Mark Munoz fears he could be out of action for up to a year due to injuries sustained in training for his fight against Chris Weidman in July.

Munoz is still waiting on results from an MRI scan on his foot to confirm, but if true, it would be a bitter disappointment for a man who was on the verge of a title shot against Anderson Silva only months ago.

“I hurt my foot training for the Weidman fight; I was training with Jason (Miller) inside the cage and my foot got caught,” Munoz told Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub TV. “I am not sure if it is broken. I will be getting an official MRI tomorrow and I will know. I just hope they do not have to break it in order for it to heal properly as it has somewhat started to heal.”

Munoz had been on an impressive four-fight winning run in the middleweight division until he met Weidman at UFC on Fuel TV: Munoz vs. Weidman. The New York-native stopped “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” inside the second round with a vicious elbow to his forehead.

Since then, Munoz has been battling to get back to 100%. After the loss, he had to battle a staph infection which spread to his knee and his forehead.

“I went to the doctor and he took a look at it. He gave me a weird look and brought out a needle and I felt stuff coming out. I am just glad I took care of it early,” Munoz told Villegas.

When asked how long he thinks he could be out with the foot injury, the fighter replied that it could be up to a year.

That length of time would leave him with a mammoth task to get back to title contention. With the likes of Weidman, Alan Belcher, Michael Bisping, Brian Stann and Hector Lombard all staking their claim for a shot at Silva’s middleweight crown, that title fight Munoz was oh so close to, might have slipped away.
