Matt “The Immortal” Brown has fallen on some rough times inside the Octagon as of late as the longtime UFC welterweight contender has lost four of his last five. He’s also dealt with some hardships outside of the cage as he was diagnosed with his first official concussion in 2015. Brown recently detailed what that experience was like, and it’s safe to say that it was a bit horrifying to say the least:
“I had to sit in my room for 10 days with no lights, no loud noises, no TV, no reading,” Brown told MMAjunkie Radio. “Like, literally stare at the wall and do nothing for 10 days, like jail.”
After dealing with this setback, Brown was recently stopped by fellow veteran Jake Ellenberger at July 30’s UFC 201. Brown admits that he had never been dropped by a head shot prior to this bout, which has led him to be ‘extra careful’ regarding his long term health and safety:
“It’s the first time from a head shot that I’ve been dropped in my entire life, and I’ve sparred with heavyweights and big guys,” said Brown. “I hope that I can speak near-full sentences when I’m done fighting.”
“Now that I’ve been through that, I want to be extra careful,” he said.
“The Immortal’s” recent struggles both inside and outside of the cage won’t stop him from chasing his goals, however, and he even said that he’d like to fight at UFC 205 on November 12, 2016 in New York, although he doesn’t know if he’d be physically prepared for that card:
“I would love New York (at UFC 205), but I’m really fat right now,” Brown said.
“There’s still a lot of hunger in my heart,” Brown said. “I’m still pressing toward the ultimate goal. I still, to this day, remember my motivation. I still remember what it’s like to go to a UFC and have that dream in my head.”
Would you like to see Brown continue to make that walk towards the Octagon?
