Matt Brown and Erick Silva met for the main event of UFC Fight Night 40, and it did not disappoint.
The fight was an instant classic, and Twitter was on fire for the action.
Brown picked up the win with a third-round TKO on Saturday night in Cincinnati. He moved his win streak up to seven straight and puts his name right at the top of the list for the next title shot at 170 pounds. The UFC will have a hard decision in determining who takes on Johny Hendricks next.
Here is how the world of social media reacted to the phenomenal bout.
Pre-Fight
Round 1
Silva hurt Brown early with a body shot, but Brown survived. Once he got back to his feet he began to pour on the offense on Silva. He came back strong enough to win the round on all three judges’ scorecards.
Round 2
It was more of the same in the second frame. Pure action. Brown got the better of the offense again in this round and nearly finished with submissions as well.
Round 3
Brown got the win after putting Silva on his back and beating him up. The “technical brawler” moves a step closer to title contention.
Post-Fight
All things seemed great initially. We were just treated to a fantastic fight, but quickly word came in through Twitter that Silva was being stretchered out of the Octagon. Best wishes go out to Silva on a speedy recovery.
