The wait is finally over ladies and gentleman.
The UFC announced during tonight’s (June 4, 2016) UFC 199 pay-per-view (PPV) from Inglewood, California that featherweight champion Conor McGregor will rematch Nate Diaz in the main event of August 20’s UFC 202.
McGregor (19-3) suffered his first loss under the UFC banner to Diaz at their initial meeting at UFC 196 back in March, when the Stockton native submitted the Irishman in the second round via rear-naked choke.
Diaz (19-10) was a late replacement for McGregor’s originally scheduled opponent in Rafael dos Anjos, who pulled out of his scheduled 155-pound title defense against the Irishman with a broken foot.
Diaz took the MMA world by storm after handing ‘Notorious’ his first career UFC loss, and the pair were originally set to headline the colossal UFC 200 summer card in July.
McGregor, however, was removed from the card after refusing to attend a Las Vegas press event to promote the bout, after the Irishman claimed it would interfere with his training.
The UFC and McGregor would then be embroiled in a highly-publicized beef that resulted in ‘Notorious’ teasing retirement, however the two sides settled their differences over a business dinner in Beverly Hills last week.
UFC President Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta also met with Diaz in his hometown of Stockton for a lunch meeting of his own, however the two sides where unable to come to terms on the financials for a potential McGregor rematch.
Now it appears a deal has been made and the two brash MMA stars will clash once again at UFC 202 live on pay-per-view from the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 20th, 2016.
