Looks like outspoken UFC middleweight Michael Bisping isn’t changing his stance on testosterone replacement therapy anytime soon.
“The Count” tore into his most recent opponent, Vitor Belfort, for getting a TRT exemption for their UFC on FX 7 encounter last month.
Bisping spit the verbal venom at a question and answer session prior to UFC on FUEL TV 7—MMA Junkie transcribed the event.
“He’s been busted for that in the past, and now he’s allowed to put steroids into his a–hole,” Bisping said. “What can I say? He’s a f—ing cheat. But I do want a rematch with the guy.”
The 35-year-old Belfort tested positive for the anabolic steroid 4-Hydroxytestosterone after his Oct. 2006 matchup with Dan Henderson under the PRIDE banner.
“The Phenom” argued that he had not taken anything prior to the fight besides over-the-counter supplements, but he still received a nine-month suspension and $10,000 fine from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Bisping’s comments are likely to raise a few more eyebrows than usual, as after the knockout loss to Belfort, he posted a statement on his official website saying he wasn’t going to make any excuses for coming up short.
He seems to have done a complete 180 though, going as far as saying the head kick and subsequent punches from Belfort did not render him unconscious and he was ready to continue.
“The referee stopped the fight,” he said. “Fair play to him, congratulations. He was the better man on the night. But I was completely fine went I went down, and I think the referee stopped too soon, and I’d love a rematch someday.”
The loss was extra bitter for the Brit, as he was guaranteed a showdown with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva if he defeated Belfort.
The setback made Bisping 0-3 in UFC title eliminator fights, previously losing to Henderson and Chael Sonnen, who are also coincidentally both open users of TRT.
Bisping also stated that he finds it odd so many fighters have TRT exemptions these days, despite the fact that low testosterone is a fairly uncommon problem; at least the way he sees it.
“There’s probably like, 0.1 percent of the world that actually have low testosterone,” Bisping said. “But for some reason, a s—load of fighters have low testosterone. I don’t need testosterone. I’m a bad-tempered bastard in the best of times.”
Should a rematch fall into the cards, it would have to wait until the end of the year, as Belfort is set to meet Luke Rockhold at UFC on FX 8 in May.
Additionally, Bisping has a chance to remain relevant at middleweight with a key matchup against Alan Belcher at UFC 159 April.
