Welterweight fighter Mike “Quick” Swick (14-4) has lost his last two fights in the UFC, dropping bouts to Paulo Thiago at UFC 109, and to Dan Hardy in a #1 contender bout at UFC 105.

Swick will step into the octagon again on January 22nd at the upcoming UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 event against UFC softmore David Mitchell.

Mitchell has won 9 of his 11 victories by submission, and to prepare for the fight Swick traveled to Brazil to train Jiu-Jitsu. “Quick” trained at the Rico Vieira and Nova União gyms, even getting a chance to train with UFC light-heavyweight Lyot Machida.

I’m training so much. Yesterday I had to sessions of BJJ and today I had BJJ and came to Nova União. I’ve been working so much, it’s a good jump start for my fight camp…I wanna put on the best show of my life, you know? I wanna show that I’m healthy and I’m back, I wanna show what to expect from me from now on. That’s a point I wanna make. I know he’s a good Jiu-Jitsu guy, and I’m training Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, stand up… I think it’s gonna be a great fight and hopefully I’m gonna make a big impression…(Lyoto Machida) was one of the trickiest guys I’ve ever sparred. He actually caught me a couple times when we were training for Tito (Ortiz, because he throws the kicks like it was a push kick and then flips over, and he caught me really good times (laughs). It’s unorthodox, but it works. Get popped by Machida in the face wakes you up, makes you a little nervous about not making any mistakes.
