It’s been nearly two months since the epic battle that occurred inside the Octagon between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz concluded, and fans are already clamoring for when the third and final chapter of the rivalry will go down.
The two brash rivals first met at UFC 196 where Diaz was a late notice replacement for then-lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. Diaz would go on to submit the Irish featherweight champ in the second round of that bout after McGregor had exerted his energy through the first eight minutes of the contest.
McGregor, who was obsessed with avenging his first loss in nearly six years, got his rematch with Diaz at UFC 202 in which the two spent 25-minutes in an absolute war in the center of the T-Mobile Arena. When it was all said and done it was ‘The Notorious One’ who’s hand was raised for the majority decision win.
With each man now holding a win over the other, a third and final contest has been discussed between the two to determine who the better fighter really is. In McGregor’s post-fight interview he demanded the contest to be on his terms at 155-pounds, where he will challenge for the weight class’ title next month:
Diaz took to social media earlier today (October 16, 2016) to fire some shots at his adversary, who stated he was prepared for the third installment of their rivalry that very night:
“I was ready for round 3 that nite were you ?”
If McGregor is able to emerge victorious come fight night in New York for the lightweight title, could the third and final bout between the two be for the 155-pound title?
McGregor will meet Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 for the lightweight title live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City on November 12, 2016.
