Team Alpha Male’s recent run of success in the UFC has apparently drawn interest from lightweight contender Nate Diaz.
The Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu student was spotted training with the team and head coach Duane Ludwig in Sacramento on Tuesday. After a hard training session, the team took a group picture with Diaz included and uploaded it to Ludwig’s Twitter page.
Team Alpha Male includes UFC stars Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes, Joseph Benavidez, TJ Dillashaw and Danny Castillo. The camp has always been a breeding ground for top talent in the lighter weight classes, but with the recent addition of Ludwig, the potential has soared for the Sacramento-based team.
Ludwig has proven to be a sensational coach in bestowing his world-class striking knowledge on an already talented bunch.
Diaz, who is coming off two straight losses, could use a fresh perspective to hopefully help him regain his previous status as the No. 1 contender in the lightweight division. With that being said, it would be shocking to see Diaz sever ties completely with Gracie, who has been by his side throughout his entire career.
This is likely more a case of not putting all of your eggs in one basket. It’s always good to jump around from multiple camps, extracting unique perspectives and a vast amount of knowledge.
Diaz must really like what he sees at Team Alpha Male and opted to pick Ludwig’s brain.
Still, change is often hard to accept, but it could also be the one thing lacking in Diaz’s life keeping him from winning a world title.
Perhaps the time has come for Nate to become his own man, separating from Gracie and the towering shadow of his brother Nick.
