Nick Diazone half of the much-anticipated, too-good-to-be-true superfight with Anderson Silva at UFC 183 in January 2015went and got himself arrested.

The Lodi News-Sentinel‘s James Striplin provided the initial report, citing “suspicion of DUI, obstructing a police officer, destruction of evidence and driving with a suspended license” as the reasons for Diaz‘s Sept. 6 arrest. The destruction of evidence charge comes as a result of Diaz trying to self-induce vomiting before taking a breath test at the police station, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto

The arraignment, Striplin reports, is expected to take place 21 days from the date of arrest.

For fight fans, this means Diaz‘s UFC 183 bout with Silva on Jan. 31 is in jeopardy. Taken together, these charges are nothing to scoff at, and with the recent demand for a cleaner, more respectable UFC personal conduct policy, Diaz might find his entire future career in limbo.

Diaz recently re-signed with the UFC on July 25, ending a 16-month absence from the UFC Octagon and tickling the hearts of fight fans everywhere. He is a fan favorite due to his trash-talking, no-nonsense, all-aggression disposition, and signing a fight against the legendary former middleweight champion was immediately seen as one of the most enticing matchups in UFC history.

Now, however, Diaz took the former tickle, revved up the intensity and clawed the hearts of fight fans worldwide with his recent arrest.

The UFC released a statement on the matter shortly after news broke.

We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering the facts. We understand that there is a legal process that will now take place and that Nick Diaz will have the opportunity to address the situation in the near future.
