Reigning two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes is set to defend her women’s featherweight title against top contender Megan Anderson at UFC 256 this December, per a recent report by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.
The report did not say if Nunes vs. Anderson will serve as the main event of the Dec. 12 card, but there’s a good chance “Lioness” gets top billing once again.

Nunes, 32, is coming off a successful defense of her women’s featherweight strap back at UFC 250 this past June when she defeated Felicia Spencer via unanimous decision. Having won her last 11 trips to the Octagon, including eight-straight title fight wins spanning two divisions, “Lioness” has cemented herself as the best fighter in women’s MMA history and arguably one of the best pound-for-pound fighters of all time. Adding another featherweight title defense to her record will be even more legendary, especially considering Anderson will be the biggest opponent Nunes has ever encountered inside of the cage.
Anderson, 30, was expected to secure her first UFC title shot much earlier than she has, but two losses over her first three Octagon appearances slightly derailed her trajectory. The former Invicta FC champion has since rebounded to capture back-to-back finishes over Norma Dumont Viana and Zarah Fairn Dos Santos. Those names don’t jump off the page, but Anderson looked downright dominant in those affairs and seems ready to test “Lioness” for the UFC women’s featherweight strap.
