The insurance company must be tired of hearing from “The Korean Zombie.”
A photo surfaced on Thursday of the Zombie’s swollen foot, apparently fractured during his loss to featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 163. It is the third serious injury the Zombie, also known by real name Chan Sung Jung, has revealed in the aftermath of his fourth-round TKO defeat.
The photo (h/t Brian Hemminger of MMAMania) shows a bloated and discolored right foot. Of course, no one watching the fight Saturday night can forget the Zombie’s most significant injury of the bout, a separated shoulder, suffered after Jung landed a right hook on Aldo. Jung gamely back-pedaled while attempting to calmly get the shoulder back into place, but Aldo noticed the injury and began to kick the injured area. A takedown and a few academic ground strikes later, and the fight was over, with Zombie on the ground howling in pain.
But the Zombie’s troubles were just beginning, as Jung also revealed this week that he fractured his orbital bone in the bout with Aldo.
Now, the broken foot appears to have created an unsavory trilogy of sorts. If it’s any consolation to the Zombie, Aldo also broke his foot during the match and is reportedly suffering from kidney stones. Aldo will reportedly miss at least the rest of 2013 as a result of the foot injury. Aldo, despite his undeniable skills and his place at the top of global pound-for-pound rankings, has been hampered with injuries throughout his UFC career. He has fought only five times since entering the UFC almost three years ago.
As for Jung, the prognosis for his foot is unknown, and there does not appear to be an immediate recovery timetable. Jung is expected to meet with specialists to discuss his options on the facial fracture. His camp has already indicated he will not need surgery for the shoulder separation.
The 26-year-old South Korean Jung (13-4) was on a three-fight win streak before losing to Aldo. He has already had surgery on his shoulder in summer 2012.
