This is UFC 239 in a few short tweets.

UFC 239 is in the books, and it saw a pleasantly surprising main event between Jon Jones and Thiago Santos that was close and competitive. There were also brutal knockouts from Amanda Nunes, Jan Blachowicz, and Jorge Masvidal.

PROS: I love how Allen got small subtle angles to land kicks, control distance. He had good defense and a varied offense. I’m impressed

CONS: Melendez didn’t look like he belonged in there. How much of that was Allen, how much was Gil’s steep decline?

PROS: Chiesa just toyed with Sanchez on the ground the entire time. I guess it’s good Diego didn’t get much brain trauma there?

PROS: What. A. Knockout. Blachowicz hurt him at the end of the first, and finished him brutally in the second

MASVIDAL INSTANTLY KO’D ASKREN

PROS: HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. Flying knee. Fastest knockout in UFC history. Jeeeeeeesus. Jesus got the knockout.

NUNES HEAD KICKS HOLM

PROS: The timing on that headkick was nice. Holm made a small mistake with her footwork, & Nunes capitalized. She has also beaten every single female BW champ

CONS: Holm lost 5 of 7 since beating Rousey. How many title shots will UFC give her off that KO?

JONES EDGES SANTOS

PROS: Santos’ best work was throwing right calf kicks. He had success early, but his knee gave out & changed the fight. Santos showed heart, some even had him edging it

CONS: Jones was too safe, didn’t go for takedowns. He’s fortunate to still have his belt.

PROS: I wasn’t too excited about this card despite 2 title bouts, but wooow did it deliver. Main event was surprisingly competitive, and there were CRAZY KOs.. And Masvidal planned that jumping knee? GOOD GOD!
