Roger Gracie set to compete at UFC Fan Expo

Roger Gracie will compete during UFC 189 fight week, but it won’t be in a MMA bout.

The ONE Championship light heavyweight, who went 4-2 under the UFC and Strikeforce banners between 2010 and 2013, will meet Rodrigo “Comprido” Medeiros in a 10-minute jiu-jitsu match. The exact date isn’t set yet, Gracie told MMAFighting.com, but will be during the American National Jiu-Jitsu Championships on July 10 and 11. Dojjo first reported the news.

A 10-time jiu-jitsu world champion and two-time ADCC gold medalist, Gracie hasn’t competed in a jiu-jitsu match since a draw with fellow world champion Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida at Metamoris 1. Under MMA rules, Gracie is coming off a third-round knockout victory over James McSweeney. Gracie told MMAFighting.com he expects to return to ONE in September.

A black belt under the legendary Carlson Gracie, Medeiros is a two-time jiu-jitsu world champion. “Comprido” fought Gracie three times at the IBJJF World Championships, and still looks for his first win against the biggest competitor in BJJ history. Medeiros also competed under Metamoris’ banner, fighting to a draw with Saulo Ribeiro.
