Ronda Rousey isn’t letting Georges St-Pierre out of her sights just yet.
The first woman to ever hold a UFC belt took aim at the welterweight champ in a recent interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal. In the article, Rousey said she admired St-Pierre for his promotional savvy but was not impressed by St-Pierre’s in-cage performances:
I respect Georges St. Pierre as a businessman and an athlete. I don’t have anything against him personally. But he’s not the kind of fighter I like watching…He fights to win matches. He doesn’t fight to defeat his opponents.
This is not the first time Rousey has attacked St-Pierre; far from it. About a year ago, she called St-Pierre a “boring” fighter (BestofMMA.com via TheProvince.com). In November, Rousey tweeted her concurrence with rival Miesha Tate’s stance that GSP was “ignorant” for saying he had “a hard time watching girls fight.”
In last week’s interview, Rousey seemed to imply that a double standard existed in the MMA community when it comes to physical appearance. Rousey said she is always asked whether her looks have something to do with her fame, but added that St-Pierre does not seem to face such questions:
Everybody keeps coming up to me and saying, ‘Oh, do you think if you didn’t look such a way, people would like you so much?’ I’m like, ‘Dude, if GSP was butt ugly, you wouldn’t want to know who he is so much.’
She wasn’t finished. The free-speaking Rousey, who has picked verbal altercations with the likes of Kim Kardashian and Michael Phelps when not trading barbs with potential and current opponents, hinted that St-Pierre would be less popular if it wasn’t for his loyal Canadian countrymen:
I think he lucked out a lot that he’s Canadian. I love Canadians. They are the coolest, nicest, most patriotic people, and they will support their countrymen no matter what, and I think that’s commendable. But if GSP wasn’t really good-looking, and really Canadian, he would be really unknown.
