The hype for UFC 157 has reached its peak, as every fighter on the main card made weight and is set to compete inside the Octagon.
History will be made Saturday night. For the first time in MMA history, a UFC pay-per-view will be headlined by two females.
But before they compete in the main event, Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche had to conquer the scales. The UFC’s first female champion, Rousey, weighed in at 134.6 pounds, while Carmouche was under at 133.6.
As both fighters posed with each other during the staredown, Rousey locked down on her jaw with an intense grimace, while Carmouche looked her dead in the eyes with focused eyes.
As for the co-main event, it was completely different. Lyoto Machida made weight at 202 pounds and Dan Henderson tipped the scales at 205, but both fighters’ personalities were certainly noticeable.
With a stagnant, easygoing demeanor, Machida lifted his arms and stared down a grinning Henderson. Nothing more was expected. The weigh-ins and festivities surrounding the fight have never appealed greatly to either fighter.
But rest assured, both fighters will have fire in their eyes tonight.
As Nick Diaz would say, “the beauty pageant” is over. The press conferences are finished, the weigh-ins are completed and the talking is over.
It’s time for these four great fighters to make that walk to the Octagon and do what they do best.
