There has been a lot of speculation in the past few months regarding whether or not Georges St-Pierre will ever return to the Octagon. Earlier this week, GSP’s longtime training partner and friend, Rory MacDonald, gave his take on the subject.

MacDonald spoke with Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour” and reacted to a tweet from trainer Firas Zahabi that suggested a potential GSP vs. Nate Diaz match after Diaz defeated Conor McGregor at UFC 196.

“That would be fun. I think it’d be good to see him fight Nate or something like that, Conor or something would be cool. I really don’t know, [St-Pierre is] so secretive. It’s hard to get a read on it, you know? But he’s training and he’s doing good, so I don’t know. I think it really comes down to the numbers.”

As MacDonald put it, whether or not GSP comes back to fight in the UFC will likely come down to the financial side of things.

“I think he could come back if the right amount of money is on the table and the right fight is there for him. That’s my guess. But I try not to ask Georges about that stuff, because that’s pretty much anything anyone ever asks him about. When it happens, it’ll happen, you know? I’ll just see it on the news somewhere or something. But I don’t know, he’ll do what he ends up wanting to do. He’ll be fine.”
