In a bout that was for No. 1 contender rights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s Strawweight division, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) alums Rose Namajunas and Tecia Torres battled it out for three hard-fought rounds this evening (Sat., April 16, 2016) at UFC on FOX 19 in Tampa, Florida.
But, in the end — on the heels of relentless striking, two takedowns and undeniable toughness — Namajunas captured the unanimous decision win and handed “Tiny Tornado” her first professional loss. It is the third-straight win inside of the Octagon for Namajunas and a victory that once again sheds light on her massive evolution as a complete mixed martial artist.
In all likelihood, Namamunas will wait to see who wins between current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha in a title rematch currently set for The Ultimate Fighter Season 23 Finale on July 8.
Stylistically, “Thug” would be a tough out for either woman.
