Former UFC lightweight champion Sean “The Muscle Shark” Sherk might not have been expecting to be caught in the middle of a police ordeal while on a seminar trip in the UK, but that’s just what happened earlier this week, according to FightersOnlyMagazine.

According to the article, the car in which Sherk had been traveling near Huddersfield was “on their database as being linked to a local man who they believe to be a key gangland figure.”

Soon after being stopped by a roadblock and approached by “several carloads of police officers carrying automatic weapons, including Hechler and Koch MP5 machine guns,” Sherk was dragged from the car and handcuffed.

After the search for firearms was conducted, the police let Sherk and his driver leave.

Sherk took the incident in good spirits but it has changed his thoughts on the UK; he noted that – despite the widespread ‘village constable’ reputation that UK police have – the officers were much more aggressive and heavy-handed than what he has ever experienced in the US.

Since Sherk’s last fight in the Octagon over a year ago, the 38-year-old has been rehabilitating from several injuries and attending seminars. This event may have him second-guessing his career outside the cage, and just may make him fighting in the UFC sooner than later.

Sherk has only fought twice since 2009 and is 1-1 in his last two. All of his losses are to current or former UFC champions.
