After winning the UFC Heavyweight Championship in impressive fashion on Saturday night in Curitiba, Brazil, Stipe Miocic made it clear he doesn’t plan to relinquish his new title belt anytime soon.

Miocic, who won the UFC Heavyweight Championship by knocking out Fabricio Werdum in devastating fashion in the first round of the UFC 198 pay-per-view main event on Saturday evening, spoke about his plans to keep the title for a “long time” during the UFC 198 post-fight press conference.

“I’ve trained too hard. I want to keep this belt a long time,” said Miocic at the press conference held after the event. “I’m going to keep this belt for awhile, I promise you that.”

As for who might be the next challenger? Miocic says, since he’s getting married in a couple weeks, he’s going to focus on that for now and let the UFC figure out whether Werdum should get an immediate rematch or Alistair Overeem should get the shot.

As far as who he will be defending the title against in his first fight as champion, Miocic said he’ll let the UFC decide whether Werdum deserves an immediate rematch, or if Alistair Overeem should get the next shot. For now, Miocic’s immediate future calls for him to the tie the knot in his personal life.

“it’s up to the UFC, honestly,” Miocic said. “It’s up to the UFC. Whoever they put in front of me, I’ll fight. I’m all about getting home, I’m getting married in a couple weeks, that’s all I care about right now.”
