Recently crowned Strikeforce women’s champion Ronda Rousey will defend her bantamweight belt for the first time later this summer.
According to MMAFighting.com, Rousey’s first challenger as the champ will be top contender and former title holder Sarah Kaufman. The two are slated to meet in August.
Neither a date nor a location have been set for this yet-to-be announced Strikeforce event.
Rousey comes into the bout fresh off of her championship winning performance against Miesha Tate this past March. “Rowdy” took the bantamweight title in stunning fashion, brutally taking Tate’s arm for the first-round submission victory.
The win was Rousey’s fifth straight first-round armbar, improving her professional record to 5-0.
Meanwhile, Kaufman is coming off a majority decision win over Alexis Davis on the same March Strikeforce card that was headlined by the Rousey versus Tate title fight. The win was Kaufman’s third straight as she improved to 15-1.
Kaufman has not been defeated since losing the women’s bantamweight belt to Marloes Coenen in October 2010. The loss, her only one as a professional, came in the third round, coincidentally, via armbar.
