On Wednesday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that it was suspending fighter Alex ‘Bruce Leeroy’ Caceres (8-5) after a positive test for marijuana metabolites following last months UFC on FUEL TV 8 event.
Caceres was given a six-month suspension and had his split decision win over opponent Kyung Ho Kang changed to a “No Contest.”
Following the announcement Caceres released a statement to MMAWeekly.com accepting full responsibility for the failed drug test and vowed to ensure that something like this “never happens again.”
“I accept full responsibility for my actions and the consequences from those actions. I apologize to all that I have disappointed, including the UFC, my family, coaches, training partners and fans. I accept the sanctions from the UFC and I look forward to completing the necessary steps to getting back in the octagon following the suspension and assuring that this never happens again.”
UFC on FUEL TV 8 took place on March 3, 2013 at the at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Caceres and Kang fought on the Facebook streamed preliminary card of the Japanese event.
