The final fight of the night pinned Benson Henderson vs Gilbert Melendez. Benson Henderson prevailed over Melendez despite an extremely close scorecard which saw each round decided by one vote. However, if you delve a little deeper into the fight metrics, it shows that Henderson landed more significant blows than Melendez did, thus earning him the victory.

The first fight up is UFC veteran Matt Brown vs Jordan Mein. Matt Brown and Jordan Mein gave the fans all they could’ve asked for, as the fight went back and forth with both fighters delivering crushing blows to their opponent. However, Brown’s experience and relentless attack was too much for Mein to handle in Round 2 as he TKO’d to Brown at round’s end.

The next fight up was Josh Thomson’s return from Strikeforce to UFC to face Nate Diaz. Josh Thomson’s return to the UFC after years in Strikeforce was a memorable win at UFC on Fox 7. He controlled Nate Diaz with kicks in the first round, and then finished him with a head kick followed by ground work for a TKO at 3:44 o the second round.

The third fight of the night pinned Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix tournament champion Daniel Cormier vs former UFC Champion Frank Mir. Cormier completely shut down a former UFC champion en route to winning 30-27 on all three judges’ scorecards, an impressive debut for Cormier and a likely disappointing end to Frank Mir’s relevancy in UFC.
