Exciting news coming out of the UFC on Tuesday, as the next coaches of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil were announced. The two men are legendary heavyweights and toward the top of the division currently: Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Though the contracts have not been signed, as reported by MMAJunkie.com, the two have verbally agreed to it:
Following “TUF: Brazil 2,” Nogueira (34-7-1 MMA, 5-3 UFC) and Werdum (16-5-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) will fight in the tradition season-ending coach-vs.-coach fight. It actually marks a rematch between the two fighters; Nogueira handed Werdum a decision loss at a 2006 PRIDE event in the opening round of an open-weight grand prix.
Nogueira was the coach of the eighth season of TUF against Frank Mir. He was a great coach, though he would lose his coaches’ fight to Mir via knockout.
Though Werdum has not been a head coach of the long-running reality show yet, he was an assistant coach under Wanderlei Silva on the first season of the Brazilian version of the show.
For Werdum, this is an opportunity to erase his loss to Nogueira in Pride.
However, a win for either man would elevate him into title talks. Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem are the top two contenders right now, but either Nogueira or Werdum could put his name in the hat with a win.
