Walsh def. Indich, unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Team Australia failed to produce a finalist in this season’s Ultimate Fighter tournament, losing out to its Canadian counterpart, but a pair of teammates from the Land Down Under did battle during Wednesday night’s finale.

Chris Indich entered the bout looking to rebound from a loss to finalist Chad Laprise in the first round of the tournament. Richard Walsh managed a victory on the show, but fell to the other finalist, Olivier Aubin-Mercier, a round later.

After a relatively competitive first round, Walsh took command of the action. He came out and set a ferocious pace in Round 2, taking it to Indich unceasingly and keeping him on the defensive throughout.

Indich just wasn’t able to match Walsh. He absorbed several hard shots, including a pounding kick to the body that resounded throughout the Colisee Pepsi.

In the third frame, Walsh continued to take it to his opponent and TUF teammate, pressuring him against the fence and working in strikes whenever separation was granted. He punctuated his efforts with a beautiful throw that seemed to drain the last bit of hope from Indich.

Ultimately, the bout was a one-sided affair, with Walsh getting the upper hand regardless of where the action fell.

So that’s 1-0 for Walsh in the UFC proper, an auspicious beginning coming off the reality series.

Indich, on the other hand, begins in the red, startingand possibly finishinghis UFC career at 0-1.
