Gagnon def. Gorman, unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

In a UFC event characterized by a strong sense of nationality, Mitch Gagnon kicked off the Ultimate Fighter Nations finale on a high note for host country Canada.

The Canadian fighter demonstrated an improved striking repertoire, winning the early exchanges with an array of stiff body kicks and uppercuts. The attacks put Tim Gorman on the defensive, shifting his attack to a primarily wrestling-based strategy.

Gagnon proved capable of dealing with Gorman‘s wrestling, stifling the takedown more often than not and making Gorman work to get back to his feet. He relied heavily on a tight headlock to keep Gorman at bay.

Gagnon implemented some wrestling of his own in Round 3, putting Gorman on his back on two occasions. His ability to take and maintain top position was instrumental in securing the final frameand ultimately the win.

On the whole, it was a frustrating affair for Gorman, who was ill-equipped to deal with his counterpart on the feet and just couldn’t get the ball rolling in the grappling department.

The victory runs Gagnon‘s unbeaten streak to three matches and puts him in position to take a shot at climbing into the next level of the UFC’s bantamweight division. He now stands at a laudable 3-1 overall with the promotion.

For Gorman, Wednesday night’s defeat marked an unsuccessful debut with the UFC. His career mark drops to 8-2.
