UFC heavyweight Junior dos Santos shows why he is the No. 1 contender by beating former Interim champ Shane Carwin in last nights UFC 131 main event. Dos Santos showed crisper striking throughout the fight, and even appeared close to finishing the fight in the first round. The Brazilian showed his takedown defense by stuffing two of Carwin’s takedowns, while scoring a couple of his own in the third.

Former UFC lightweight contender Kenny Florian debuted in the featherweight division in last nights UFC 131 co-main event against Diego Nunes. Florian, who has fought in four weight classes from 185 lbs to 145 lbs now, used effective takedowns and striking to earn a unanimous decision over his opponent. Concerns over the weight-cut proved for not as Florian showed he had more gas in the tank than his opponent by the start of the third round.
