UFC 132 Results: What’s next for Dominick Cruz with a Loss?
Bleacher Report’s Andrew Barr:
UFC 132 will take place on Saturday, July 2 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The main event will feature the first UFC bantamweight title fight ever as Dominick Cruz defends his title against the only feature to ever defeat him, Urijah Faber.
The co-main event will feature the long awaited return of Wanderlei Silva, who is set to face Chris Leben. Also appearing on the main card will be Tito Ortiz who will be fighting for his UFC career when he faces Ryan Bader.
Dominick Cruz will defend his bantamweight championship for the first time in the UFC this Saturday.
His opponent will be the only man to ever defeat him, Urijah Faber.
This is a very highly anticipated match up and serious contender for Fight of the Night. That’s saying a lot, given that the card also features a bout between Wanderlei Silva and Chris Leben.
Cruz’ first performance against Urijah was a disappointing one because Dominick was winning the fight standing and then decided to go for a takedown and that’s where he got himself into trouble. Shortly after Dominick went for the takedown, Faber caught him with a guillotine choke and ended the fight.
Now that Cruz has a better idea of what strategy he should be using against Urijah, he will be looking to redeem himself and retain his belt.
However, if Dominick Cruz once again fails to defeat Urijah Faber, what’s next for him?
A third match with Joseph Benavidez is a possibility, if Joseph beats Eddie Wineland in August.
Dominick and Joseph have fought twice before and their most recent bout went to a split decision, with Cruz walking away the victor. A third fight might give fans a more decisive answer as to who the better fighter is.
If Benavidez loses to Wineland, then a match up between Wineland and Cruz is also highly possible.
Match ups against Brian Bowles and Demetrious Johnson would also make sense. Both are elite fighters and victories against them would be a big help in getting Dominick back in the title hunt.
