The main cards for UFC 135 are full of captivating action. The headliner is undoubtedly the title fight betweeen Jon Jones and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson
This is Jones’ first defense of his UFC light heavyweight title. He has been amazing in his young career, and will look to assert his wrestling advantage over former champ Rampage Jackson.
As fun as that matchup is certain to be, I am just as hyped for two other bouts.
Takanori Gomi will be taking on Nate Diaz in the 155-pound division. Gomi will be looking to recapture some of the magic that has made him one of the sport’s best fighters. Gomi has been struggling with effects of aging lately. He is just 1-2 in his last three fights in the octagon. A loss to Diaz will likely lead to Gomi’s retirement. You can never count out the heart of a champion though.
The great Matt Hughes is in a similar position.
Hughes will be taking on Josh Koscheck. Hughes storied career includes winning the belt twice. He also had an impressive seven title defenses during those two runs.
Hughes Last time in the octagon Hughes looked sluggish last time in the octagon against BJ Penn. It took Penn all of 21 seconds to defeat Hughes.
If Hughes doesn’t perform a lot better in this one, it could very well be his last time in the octagon.
