Karyn Bryant of MMA H.E.A.T. talked to undefeated heavyweight Travis Browne after his UFC 135 unanimous decision victory over Rob Broughton.
Browne, who has nine knockouts in his career, is known as a finisher, but Broughton proved to be tougher than many expected.
He survived the three-round onslaught of Browne, who was able to pancake guys like Stefan Struve and James McSweeney.
When asked about his performance, Browne had a mixture of emotions.
“A little happy and sad. Happy for the fact that, as a fighter, I knew I was able to push all 15-minutes. There were some times he was going to try to reverse me, and he had some decent opportunities to do that, but I used my heart and my wrestling base to go ahead and reverse his reverse, and I came out on top in all the different positions, and I was happy in that sense,” said Browne.
“The sad part is I didn’t finish somebody tonight. I didn’t give the fans what they paid for. I don’t want to see other people doing that for them. I don’t like watching that. I want to be that guy. I’m a little bit jealous and selfish in that sense, but I’ll come back stronger next time knocking somebody out.”
With the win, Browne’s professional record improves to 12-0-1. When asked about a possible future opponent, Browne named fellow undefeated prospect Matt Mitrione as an interesting style match.
