He’s a former two-time world champion and has won titles in two different weight classes, a feat that has only been matched by one other man, UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture.

Originally, Penn was expected to meet with budding contender Carlos Condit as the co-main event for UFC 137.

However Nick Diaz managed to botch those plans once he skipped out on several press junkets leading up to his championship bout with Georges St. Pierre next month.

Now both Penn and Diaz still remain on the card, this time facing each other.

The Hawaiian has little to prove in his career. He’s beaten some of the biggest names in the sport, including perennial contender Kenny Florian, former champion Sean Sherk and rival Matt Hughes—whom Penn has finished on two occasions, both inside of the first round.

Diaz, however, has plenty to show. He’s touted as one of the best fighters in his class with the least amount of discipline.

Learning to “play the game” has been a constant struggle for the Cesar Gracie fighter and this bout with Penn will be detrimental to his career.
