Earning “Fight Night” bonuses for their work at UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes were Edson Barboza, Terry Etim, and Rousimar Palhares, who received an extra $65,000 for each bonus meaning Barboza walked away with $130,000 in bonus money.

“Fight of the Night” went to Barboza and Etim for their pay-per-view opening bout, the only fight to go past the first round on the main card. Barboza also received the “Knockout of the Night” bonus for finishing Etim in the third round. While “Submission of the Night” went to Rousimar Palhares for his 63-seconds of work.

UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes took place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil which featured live broadcasts on the web, television, and pay-per-view. One prelim bout streamed live on Facebook, while the remaining four prelim matches aired on television on FX, leaving the five bout main card broadcast available via subscription.

As noted, lightweights Barboza and Etim were the only bout to make it past the first round on the main card. Despite some solid strikes from Etim early in the fight, Barboza managed to slow the Brit down after landing some heavy leg kicks to Etim’s lead leg. In the final round, Barboza would land a spinning wheel kick to Etim’s chin, earning the first KO of that type in the promotions history, keeping Barboza’s record perfect at 10-0.

Palhares earned his second “Submission of the Night” bonus of his career, finishing opponent Mike Massenzio with a heel hook at 1:03 of the first round. After fighting off the Palhares’ initial takedown attempt, Massenzio found himself pulled into the Brazilian’s guard, who then transitioning quickly into a heel hook submission to force the tap.
