At UFC 153 in Brazil, featherweights Rony Jason and Sam Sicilia gritted their teeth and swung for the fences. Both men had their moments, but as the second round wound down, Jason caught a Sicilia kick, dropped Sicilia with a strong right hand and scored the TKO on the ground with elbows, punches and hammerfists.
The win came at 4:16 of the second round.
What We’ll Remember About This Fight
It was one of those great back-and-forth brawls. There was action in all phases, but the story of the fight was told on the feet and with the fists.
What We Learned About Jason
Jason (12-3), the winning featherweight from the recent season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil, is an absolute superstar in his home country. The crowd chanted his name throughout and went wild when he won. And with this performance tonight, which represented a serious improvement over his last fight, he may have shown he’s ready for a fast track.
What We Learned About Siclia
Sicilia (11-2) fought hard, but he may need to fight smarter down the road. His moves seemed fairly predictable and he started to drop his hands as the fight wore on.
What’s Next for Jason
Another rising star: Dennis Bermudez. It will be interesting to see how Jason reacts to a larger opponent.
What’s Next for Siclia
Another loser from UFC 153: Joey Gambino.
