Will you be attending UFC 154 on November 17?
If so, you might run into a familiar face.
According to Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com (via MixedMartialArts.com), UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has his ticket and will be watching the fights from the Bell Centre in Montreal.
On the latest episode of UFC Tonight, Helwani explained that, “According to Anderson Silva’s manager, he [Silva] will be going to Montreal and he will have a front row seat.”
Maybe that’s not the biggest deal in the world. After all, it’s certainly not uncommon for active fighters to attend UFC events, especially title fights featuring a legend like Georges St-Pierre.
However, Helwani proceeded to explain that, “When he [Silva’s manager] was asked why he [Silva] was going, he said maybe to call out GSP if he wins.”
Helwani also noted that “Silva doesn’t really travel to many fights, especially if he is not fighting. I can see potential there for a great super fight between GSP and Silva if it all pans out.”
It looks like we can add this development to the already lengthy list of storylines surrounding UFC 154 and St-Pierre’s return to the Octagon.
If Silva does stroll into the cage after the fight, does anyone think he’ll direct a “Not impressed by your performance” at GSP?
Regardless of how he goes about it (if he goes about it at all), issuing a challenge to St-Pierre in front of a stadium full of his hometown fans would be a heck of a way for Silva to make a statement.
Oh, November 17, please get here soon!
