The Tristar gym in Montreal was featured on Training Day: An Inside look at Tristar Gym Live on FUEL TV tonight. The gym’s superstar fighters like Georges St-Pierre and Rory MacDonald were featured as they prepare for upcoming bouts.
Among the notable fighters known to train their skills under head coach Firas Zahabi was a familiar face, Dan Hardy.
According to Zahabi, Hardy was brought in to prepare St-Pierre for his upcoming fight with interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit. Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting has the quotes:
“He’s a special guest this week to spar with Georges,” Zahabi said. “He fought Condit. When he was fighting Condit, it was neck-and-neck. Yes, he got stopped by Condit, but I think it was one inch away from being the other way around. It was very close — extremely close fight — and I think he’s a very good look for us to see what it’s going to like when Georges fights Condit.”
Hardy met Condit back at UFC 120 and was knocked out in the first round. The KO was strange as Hardy and Condit both connected with left hooks however Hardy was the one to drop.
Both Hardy and St-Pierre engaged in a war of words prior to their meeting at UFC 111 but it appears the two have become cordial with one another. Zahabi is also a proponent of the brash Englishman.
“We click,” Zahabi said. “He’s a great guy. We get along very well personally.”
Zahabi also told host Kenny Florian that Tom “Kong” Watson and Brandon Thatch were in town to help St-Pierre prepare for Condit.
