We now have less than one week to go before welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre makes his long awaited return to the Octagon this Saturday, November 17.

The Canadian fighting legend will attempt to reestablish his supremacy over the weight class that he dominated for so long—and that he was forced to relinquish control of because of an ACL injury—when he faces off against divisional regent Carlos Condit, at UFC 154.

The contest, which will take place in St-Pierre’s native Quebec, will mark the absentee champion’s first MMA action since April 30, 2011, as well as his first attempt at overcoming the devastating knee injury that threatened to cut short his career.

The UFC 154 main event will also signify one of the champion’s toughest external challenges—Condit, himself—he has faced in some time.

In honor of St-Pierre’s momentous return, the UFC has released the attached video, which details the injury he suffered, the ensuing struggles it wrought and the champion’s road to recovery en route to UFC 154.

The video also sizes up Condit, and takes a cursory glance at the contest the two men will share this Saturday.

While the 2:58 reminder of what the UFC 154 main event means is sure to get blood pumping through the veins of mixed martial arts fans, it’s but a drop in the bucket the UFC has rapidly been filling up with St-Pierre-based promos of late.

And while the promotional efforts and inherent intrigue underlying the match has already made St-Pierre vs. Condit one of the most highly anticipated fights of 2012, don’t expect the UFC hype-train to do anything but accelerate during fight week.

Just keep crossing those days off on the calendar.
