At UFC 154, featherweight Pablo Garza punished Canadian favorite Mark Hominick and took the win by unanimous decision.
Garza (12-3) used his length and accurate fists to open big cuts on Hominick‘s face and control “The Machine” on the ground. For Hominick (20-12), this was his fourth consecutive loss in the UFC.
What we’ll remember about this fight
Toward the end of the first round, Garza hit the mat following a hard gut shot from Hominick. But Garza recovered and fired an uppercut that landed right on Hominick‘s eye, immediately opening a major cut. That set the tone for the rest of the bout.
What we learned about Mark Hominick
With a home-country crowd at his back, Hominick still couldn’t get it done. He made it close against Jose Aldo and made a mistake against The Korean Zombie. But he didn’t seem prepared for The Scarecrow’s major length and reach advantage. Hominick may be running out of excuses.
What we learned about Pablo Garza
Did I mention he was long? Because he was. Rangy, too. And also quite wiry. Outside of that, it was his toughness and resilience that stood out Saturday night.
What’s next for Hominick
Well, it’s his fourth loss now in the UFC. He’s a good fighter and a popular one, but he may need to spend some time in another promotion for awhile. Right now he doesn’t look to be UFC material.
What’s next for Garza
How about Rani Yahya? We’ll see if he can do it again.
